Public lighting and Smart City

‘Illumina’: energy efficiency in public lighting. From ‘Lumière’ to the smart city

Project ‘Illumina’ was created to promote and support the reduction of the energy consumption of lighting in public outdoor areas (such as, but not only, public access ways, parks and gardens) which are the responsibility of the municipal authorities in the province of Monza and Brianza.

‘Illumina’ encourages the creation of regional aggregations, through calls for tenders, which will achieve significant synergies thereby benefitting all the municipal authorities involved in the programme of retraining and improving the efficiency of public lighting facilities.

The research, ‘Illumina’ 2011, presents provisional forecast results, which was possible thanks to the use of an experimental and innovative tool which allows for the development of a model from which it is possible to estimate the costs involved in an upgrading project.
