Public lighting and Smart City

Project ‘Illumina’

Project ‘Illumina’ was created to promote and support the reduction of the energy consumption of lighting in public outdoor areas (such as, but not only, public access ways, parks and gardens) which are the responsibility of the municipal authorities in the province of Monza and Brianza.

‘Illumina’ encourages the creation of regional aggregations, through calls for tenders, which will achieve significant synergies thereby benefitting all the municipal authorities involved in the programme of retraining and improving the efficiency of public lighting facilities.

To this end, CRIET and ENEA, with the initial participation of the province of Monza e Brianza and Infoenergia Scarl, will carry out the necessary initiatives to provide local administrators with the operational and procedural solutions to overcome the design and economic difficulties which councils face when they decide to undertake the management of projects to upgrade public lighting facilities.

The initiative, launched in 2011, has seen CRIET engaged, on the one hand, in the creation of expert technical panels aimed at designing calls for tenders which will enable the achievement of economies of scale and on the other hand, in the organisation of institutional and public meetings designed to promote the initiative at local government level.
